In honor of Darwin's "Origin of Species" 150 anniversary, I presume, the CNN are holding a simple poll.

http://edition.cnn.com/

Do you believe in God?

Yes 69%
No 31%

Go get there and vote. Pretty please.

We should do a similar poll here, but we're pretty sure what the outcome would be, I guess.

They omitted the third and equally viable option, "I don't know". It's not that I'm indecisive, it's that I feel I don't have enough evidence to make that call one way or another definitively. Neil DeGrase Tyson even touches on human comfort with the unknown here: http://www.videosift.com/video/Neil-DeGrasse-Tyson-On-UFOs-And-The-Argument-From-Ignorance .

^I think the inference of "do you believe" means that your conclusion does not have to be completely definitive, but a guess based on what you believe.

I mean technically no atheist can say "I'm absolutely certain there is no God", but we do anyway, because that's what we believe based on our evidence.

If you have doubts, there's a good chance your answer is "no".

Yeah, agnosticism is a given, because no one can know the existence of god. You're either an agnostic atheist or an agnostic theist.

By the way, I just realized that poll is on the international cnn page. I was really hoping the atheist movement in the US was taking off. Guess I was wishing.

I beg to differ... there is a very vocal community in the US which actually believes they "know" God. They talk to him, and he talks to them. The whole "have to accepted jesus" thing is alive and kicking in this country and those people would never in a million years describe themselves as agnostics of any kind...

^There may very well be a difference in what they describe what they are, and what they are. They may not believe they are descendents of apes either, but that doesn't change the fact that they are.
